Port of Saldanha Scoops Safety Awards

The Port of Saldanha took home several awards at the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) National Safety Competition in Richards Bay.
Captain Vernal Jones, Port Manager of the Port of Saldanha, scooped the Best Port Manager Health and Safety Award in recognition of his outstanding commitment to health and safety and the positive impact of his leadership style on his team.

The port was acknowledged for achieving OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 certification and was one of three ports to receive the Silver Membership Award for a port or business unit that has achieved a disabling injury frequency rate (DIFR) of zero for one year.
An award was also given to the most enthusiastic safety mascots for their participation in this year’s safety competition. First place went to Rooy, the lobster from the Port of Saldanha, introduced earlier this year and named after the infamous red iron ore sand of Saldanha Bay.
Finally, in the First Aid category third place went to the Port of Saldanha’s Pearls team. – (Media Release)
