Goedgedacht hosts online benefit auction

For the first time the Goedgedacht Trust will host an exciting online benefit auction in aid of its COVID-19 Support Strategies.
Online bidding starts Thursday, 1 October 2020, with jewellery, fine art, wine, leather products, antiques, collectibles, furniture and extraordinary leisure travel & family experiences going under the hammer. At 5pm on the last day of October, the Trust will conclude the online auction and declare the bidder with the highest bid the winner of that item.

Established in 1993, the Goedgedacht Trust was initiated to assist in the transformation of disadvantaged rural communities. When COVID-19 struck, it expanded its emergency feeding scheme and transformed its facilities to serve as recovery centres. The Trust is providing daily meals for up to 1 332 vulnerable families across their 6 Path Onto Prosperity (POP) Centres in the communities of Riebeek West, Riebeek Kasteel, Chatsworth, Riverlands, Koringberg and Porterville. A total 506 416 meals have been served since April 14.
Each item in the auction has been donated with the express intention of helping to ease the hardship of people in rural communities; participating in this auction is a great opportunity to support the Trust in providing sustenance and ongoing food security to those most in need.
“Since the start of the COVID 19 pandemic, the Goedgedacht team has been able to provide more than 500 000 meals to struggling families living in the surrounding Swartland villages. This was only possible through the generous support of the many Goedgedacht friends. Proceeds from this auction will enable Goedgedacht to ensure that people in need would continue to receive a meal a day,” says Managing Director, Deon Snyman.

The lots include:
FOOD & WINE: Wines from Landskroon Wines, Lanzerac Wine Estate, Swartland Winery, The Sadie Family Wines as well as 3 Magnum bottles of the Mullineux Wines Schist Syrah 2016 worth R8 000 are all part of the auction line up.
Bid on a bountiful basket of the recently released goed range of award-winning extra virgin olive oils, table olives, and dressings gifted by Goedgedacht Trading to round off your #bidforgood purchase.
LEISURE TRAVEL and FAMILY EXPERIENCES: Bid on a 2-night self catering stay worth R16 000 for six adults and two children in the Wild Olive House, inclusive of a morning game drive, at Bartholomeus Klip Farmhouse in the Riebeek Valley, a 2-night bed & breakfast stay for two at The Vineyard hotel, located on the banks of the Liesbeek River in Newlands, Cape Town and a 2-night bed & breakfast stay for four at Still Waters on the Goedgedacht farm.
A 30-minute, fun and professional family (or couple) lifestyle photo shoot by Inecke Jonker of Inecke Photography, including editing and an online gallery, is also included in this category.
JEWELLERY: Handmade porcelain earrings with fresh water pearls by Nina Bosch Porcelaine and a pair of white marble earrings set in silver by Carine van Zyl Jewellery has been donated to the Goedgedacht online benefit auction.
FINE ART: Distinguished artists have also gifted to the auction line-up. Riaan van Zyl, whose works feature in prestigious art collections around the world, has donated a 60 x 43 cm print worth R10 000. Urban landscape painter, Jenny Parsons, donated “Distance”, a limited edition print created in her Riebeek Valley studio from drawings and paint sketches of the Silvermine Nature Reserve. Gordon Williams donated an original painting, “Kasteelberg” inspired by a Mary Walker image worth R22 500.
The Gallery Riebeek Kasteel donated a ceramic vessel to the value of R1 500 by ceramic artist Dale Lambert.

FURNITURE and LEATHER PRODUCTS: Riebeek Valley small businesses generously donated items towards the Goedgedacht online benefit auction, ROES, which stocks an array of interesting and unusual items, donated a hand-carved, antique Karoo Carver chair and artisan leather company, Lewis & Madge Leather, a hand crafted Ruby Red Single Wine Carrier worth R1 350.
ANTIQUES & COLLECTIBLES: There’s nothing quite like the thrill of the antiques and collectibles hunt; this lot includes an extraordinary collection of one-of-a-kind pieces; from Sheffield England silverplate items to Art Deco figurines, rare books and antique silver & whalebone walking sticks.
TRICYCLE: Buy a tricycle for little Stiaan Zimre. Studies have shown that bicycle riding helps counteract the higher levels of social isolation and health problems kids with Down’s syndrome face – but for Stiaan’s parents, who are his full-time caregivers, it is simply not possible to provide more than what the grant they receive from the South African Social Security Agency can cover.
Stiaan is a happy, 6-year-old boy with an excitable demeanor. He laughs often; enjoys singing and amusing his mom with fanciful stories. This gift to Stiaan is the ultimate #bidforgood purchase and will go a long way in support of his physical and mental development.

In response to the devastating impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on rural communities in particular, the Goedgedacht Trust and 167 volunteers have to date travelled 17 527 kilometers and have spent 3 696 hours preparing and serving 506 416 meals daily to 1 332 families across their six POP centres.
The Goedgedacht Trust is calling on all interested parties to register ahead of auction day; all monies raised will go to supplement the remarkable Support Strategies put in place by the Trust to bring relief to rural communities living in extreme poverty due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
